Windows 7 Beta Released, Then Pulled
I know it’s Macworld and CES but I also must remain Moxie by talking about one of the most anticipated OS that is coming out later this year - Windows 7.
During CES, as I wrote on PC Authorities, Steve Ballmer mentioned Windows 7 Beta would be available for users as of today (Friday). Microsoft commented (at CES) “the beta version of Windows 7, Microsoft’s next-generation PC operating system, can be downloaded today by MSDN, TechBeta and TechNet customers. Consumers who want to test-drive the beta will be able to download it beginning January 9 at http://www.microsoft.com/windows7.”
Well, thanks to the droves of anti-Vista users who swarmed the site, it looks like we may just have to wait a little longer. CNET is reporting that “Microsoft has postponed, at least for a short time, making the beta of Windows 7 publicly available. The move comes as Microsoft has struggled to keep its Windows 7 Web site up on Friday.”
“Due to very heavy traffic we’re seeing as a result of interest in the Windows 7 Beta, we are adding some additional infrastructure support to the Microsoft.com properties before we post the public beta,” Microsoft said in a blog posting, according to CNET as well.
I think this is actually a good thing for Microsoft as it shows a lot of interest in Windows 7 thanks to the hordes of wanna-be beta users crashing the system. Time will tell.
If you’d like to know more about Windows 7 and why everyone is SO happy about it, go to PC Authorities for great information on what Windows 7 entails.
PS, Happy Friday everyone. Currently filming Moxie Mo Show #44 which will cover CES and Macworld so you can make sure you didn’t miss a thing.
