Which Social Network Do You Dig?

PC Magazine defines social networking sites as a website that provides a virtual community for people interested in a particular subject or just to “hang out” together. In this ever changing and expanding era of social media, I can’t begin to describe the impact that sites like YouTube, Twitter, Pownce, MySpace and Facebook have had on me personally.
In a matter of a couple of months, I’ve been able to build a wonderful community on Twitter that consists of peers, co-workers, friends and acquaintances. No longer are the days where people JUST sit in a chat room and socialize. Just last week, @nealcampbell and @calilewis had a Dallas Twitter social in which I attended. Instantly, I began recognizing people as they walked in the door. It didn’t take long for me to begin thinking “wow, what have we started here?” Check out some of the pictures from our Dallas Twitter hangout here.
Social networking is definitely the future of the web, in my unprofessional opinion. These sites and mediums are no longer just for the geek or just the expert. Anyone and everyone is welcome. If you can’t find a community of similar people on any of these major social networking sites, then you just need to continue looking. I really believe that social networking can be a positive move in the right direction when it comes to lending support (technical, professional, personal) to your fellow neighbor.
So, my awesome blog readers, which social network site is your favorite? I would love to know so please leave a comment below.

I would have to say that Twitter has been the #1 networking and relationship growing tool for me. Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace have been great for connecting with old friends and colleagues, but Twitter has introduced me to so many great people–like you! I really feel like Twitter has opened a lot of doors for me, both personally and professionally.

I agree with Jess and say that I use Twitter far more than all the other social network sites. I'm also on Facebook, but I don't use it as much and I only use it to reconnect with family and old friends. Since moving to Dallas in 2006, Twitter has gotten me out of this funk of not being able to make new friends (it's hard to make new friends when you move to a new city & you work at home). Thanks to Twitter, I've made a lot of new friends who have a lot in common with me. I'm actually very grateful for it.

I use Twitter the most i'd say. Facebook I use to keep up with HS and college friends… and Scrabulous. MySpace was far to annoying for me to spend any time on. Digg? Never had a use for it all.

I think Twitter has the most potential of all of the social networking sites. Facebook and MySpace were great for re-connecting to old friends and co-workers, but Twitter is all about meeting new people and sharing with them. In fact, I have yet to "connect" with anyone I knew previously (meaning before Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. hit the scene).

Digg.com for sure…. Although digg is only for people with lots of friends which makes it a little unfair, you can still do a lot of diggs with your own posts…. I find the to have to most interesting stuff compared to all sites… but for sites that you can make friends and talk to… digg is not the one! stumble would be my next pick

Twitter, definitely! MySpace and Facebook require that you take your precious content and give it to them. It's a closed network. People should create their own content in their own spaces, and be their own media.

Twitter is number 1. I check it several times a day. I might go weeks without looking at MySpace or YouTube, and Digg I visit a couple of times a year. Haven't played with Facebook, yet.

Twitter is definitely my social network of choice. I'm not on MySpace or Facebook, and I visit YouTube and Digg pretty infrequently. But I'm on Twitter almost constantly through my day. I try to read every tweet from everyone I follow, and often follow posted links to some very good stuff.

Flugpo.com is my favorite. It is unique in the fact that it is a social classifieds community. You can post your free classified ads and network professionally or personally. It takes the best aspects of social networking and puts them together on one great site. I got very fed up with Facebook and MySpace so I delted both accounts. Now I "reside" at Flugpo.com!
