I Look To You

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

So anyone who really knows me, knows that I’m a huge Whitney Houston fan. I’ve loved her since I was a kid and “I Will Always Love You” is my most favorite song ever. I know she’s had it a bit rough as of late, but I truly believe she’s back on track and her new album just released yesterday. I had to get this song in some sort of expression, so naturally I made a photo “montage” of what this song means to me.

Losing my Dad on Easter this year and losing my only sibling, Steve, to cancer in 2005 has devastated my family – but I choose to look to my friends, my family and my loved ones to keep me through the rough times. I hope this video somehow captures that, especially with Whitney’s beautiful new song in the background.

Now go turn up your speakers.

Canon HV30: One Moxie HD Cam

Canon HV30

As many of you know, I am the host and producer of the Moxie Mo Show. This podcast is a show all about technology and what I deem as moxie in technology. In the ever competing world of podcasts, one thing you need is a good camera and I believe I found one in the Canon HV30.

Testfreaks.com rates the camera (user reviews, which I like to gauge as the best) as an 7.3 out of 10. We all know Canon makes beautiful and wonderful HD cameras. The problem I’ve had for quite some time is the price. I do the Moxie Mo Show as a hobby and although just recently we got signed by Mevio, my show isn’t my bread and butter. I couldn’t afford a $1200 camera like some podcasts out there which is why I did the show with my Flip Mino HD for a few months. Now, I’m proud to say I was able to get a great deal with the Canon HV30 and it’s definitely worth the $650.

I’m not a technical expert so I am not going to write about every single spec of the Canon HV30 (thus why you should go to Testfreaks.com and you can read everything you want about it), but I definitely encourage you to buy a Canon HV30 for ANY HD recordings.

This HD camera shoots gorgeous 1080 HD footage and uses Mini-DV tapes (which experts all say makes the HD look so much better) as well as gives you the ability to use an external microphone with it as well. It’s perfect for podcasting and perfect for a “family HD camera.” I definitely give it 5 moxies.

Satellite Debris Falls Over Dallas

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Today, James and I were driving down Hwy 75 towards Uptown to clean up our old apartment after our big move this weekend. All of a sudden, I said “James, what is that?” and pointed to the sky. It was some fireball in the sky streaming down faster than I’ve ever seen – too big for a firework and too small for an airplane but we were literally driving and watching this “thing” light up the day time sky (it was right before 11:00am CST on Sunday). I immediately called my Dad to tell him what we witnessed. Was it an airplane that exploded (Dallas Love and DFW are both in the vicinity of where we were) or was it a meteorite during the day? We had no idea. I then told James, maybe it was pieces of the satellites that crashed earlier this week but then we dismissed that because we thought we had read that the debris from the Russian and US satellites would be in orbit for “thousands” of years.

Well, now it’s 5pm and it looks like tons of Texans saw what we witnessed. Thank God. And according to the FAA, it does appear to be a satellite debris of some kind. They have NOT confirmed which satellite it is, but it has to be the Russian and US communications satellites that crashed, right?

So glad to know what we witnessed is now caught on tape. Here’s a video of someone taping a marathon in Austin, TX and you can see the bright flash – their view was NOTHING like ours – it literally seemed to happen right in front of our car. Insane.

YouTube Goes HD!

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Well it’s been an interesting week for technology news and Google’s YouTube definitely topped the cake. YouTube, the world’s largest video sharing site, has officially gone HD.

According to Techcrunch, “After teasing us for a year with the option to watch “higher quality” videos that weren’t quite high-def, it appears that YouTube is making the switch to HD, at least for some videos that have been uploaded in that quality. Earlier this month, there were reports of YouTube testing this feature, but this morning it seems to be more widespread. (This comes after YouTube adopted a widescreen format for all of its videos last week).”

Bravo to YouTube for doing this. Some bloggers (just recently today) have even gone so far to say the quality of the 720p videos on YouTube look better than Vimeo’s HD service. Wow.

This just goes to show that Santa needs to bring me my new Flip Mino HD now!

World May Be Crumbling; I Beg To Differ

Friday, October 10th, 2008

We all have heard the news from the last several weeks and I must say, it really has brought me down. The world’s economy is falling apart, literally. Constant mud is being thrown from side to side in this intense political election year. America seems divided on some major issues which we all know what can happen to a nation divided… crime is constantly around us as is disease and death.

I came home this past Wednesday from work and I was a bit down in the dumps. A long week. James, my boyfriend, decided to take me and our dog, Deco, to a park and it literally opened my eyes to something so profound. We don’t have to step too far away from our own backyards to see that we do, in fact, live in a wonderful world.
