Apple Responds to iTunes Sync Crash Issue

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I wrote earlier what I believed to be a personal fix to the iTunes sync-crashing issue that has plagued thousands of iPod and iPhone users in the last four days. Today, Apple sent me an email detailing the issue and their suggestion on how to fix it, and it looks very similar to what I posted two days ago:

Dear Customer,

Recently, we uncovered an issue which was causing iTunes to unexpectedly quit when synced with an iPod or an iPhone. This issue impacted a small number of users, and we have identified your account as potentially being affected.

If you have experienced this issue, please follow these steps in order to sync your iPod or iPhone with iTunes:

1. Launch iTunes
2. Select “Deauthorize Computer” from the Store menu
3. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Deauthorize button
4. Next, choose “Authorize Computer” from the Store menu
5. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Authorize button

Once you have successfully deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, you should be able to sync your iPod or iPhone to iTunes.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced as a result of this issue.

Thank you for being an iTunes Store customer.

iTunes Crashes When Syncing iPhone 2.2.1

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

The last three days I’ve noticed something very peculiar with iTunes. Ever since I upgraded my iPhone to 2.2.1, things have been fine for the first 2 days. Then I deleted a song and all of a sudden now every time I sync my iPhone, iTunes crashes. This has happened THIRTY times now.

So I googled and you’ll never believe what I’ve found – there are THOUSANDS of people who are having this exact same problem in the last several days. Some have deleted songs and then it crashed and some have not. So I thought it best to post what I did to fix my problem, so far. I have no idea if this solution will keep working, but at least I can sync my iPhone with all of my DRM and non-DRM content and it’s working.

CNET and MacNN have begun covering this debacle – I just hope other big blogs cover this so Apple will hurry and fix it.

Here’s the Apple forums for you to peruse if you’re having this problem. Click here.

Here’s what I did to get it working again:

(1) Deauthorized my computer in iTunes (Store -> Deauthorize Computer)

(2) Authorize my computer in iTunes (Store -> Authorize Computer) – NOTE: if you have AppleTV, this will reset it and AppleTV will have to sync all your content again, but this is normal and just fine. You won’t lose anything.

(3) Go into iTunes Store, purchase a free app.

(4) Sync.

For some reason, this is working for me. According to the Apple forums, it works for most of us and for others it doesn’t.

Apple, please hurry.

Damages is Damaging My Couch!

Glenn Close in Damages

Ever since I got Apple TV (great boyfriend I have), I’ve been watching full seasons of shows that I never saw while they are on TV. In other words, I’ve been hearing of the phenomenal Glenn Close’s character in the critically acclaimed TV Show called Damages… but I never watched it due to having several other shows that are “must watches” for me. Well, now thanks to my Apple TV and iTunes, I can purchase an entire season of a TV Show (just like I did on Friday) and watch the entire season, COMMERCIAL free, in one entire day. And I did just that with Damages.

Damages is freaking awesome. Glenn Close is a powerhouse and she plays an attorney that is ruthless, mean, intelligent, backstabbing and yet she’s adorable and you find yourself rooting for her. After all, Season One’s main theme is all about Glenn’s character going after the asshole CEOs who stole millions of dollars from their employees leaving all of them with nothing after years and years of service. But what makes this attorney television show different is simple. It’s on FX and it has Glenn Close. You don’t need to read any more than that to know this series is phenomenal and you ALL should go download every single episode on iTunes right now. Do it for yourself.

In a world of reality TV crap, it’s so refreshing to just let go and let your mind wander into the dangers of NYC and the lives of top notch attorneys all while gripping your couch at the end of every single episode. Damages is the name of the series… and you will be damaged if you don’t watch it.

Happy viewing!

Update on SJK – January 15th, 2008

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

So by now, all of us Apple cult members have thoroughly and thoroughly researched into every known website that vlogs or blogs about Steve Jobs’ awesome key note that was held in San Francisco earlier today. Feel free to check out my three favorite sites for up to the second updates… (Engadget, Gizmodo, TUAW) All three of these sites are major players and I watched all three of them today and literally was hearing the things Steve was announcing to those that were actually in the building as “live blogging time”. So yes, I was quick to put up the first information of Job’s announcement regarding the Macbook Air thanks to the awesome job these sites did in their liveblogging.

Here’s my McCord’s Moxie Simplification of the big keynote address:

(1) Steve seemed confident through out his entire speech which seemed to keep the booooos at bay, if there were any. The first item he mentioned, right off the bat, was the Time Capsule (an airport extreme base station PLUS a hard drive all in one). So those of us who have Macbooks and are getting tired of having to plug in our external hard drive to back up will be quite pleased.

(2) iTunes, iTunes, iTunes – I am SO thrilled with the opportunity of now being able to rent movies via iTunes. And the best part? You can rent a movie on your computer… then if you decide to watch it on your TV, you just push a button (Transfer) and send it to your iPhone. Then connect your iPhone to your TV and voila, you’re good to go. I tested this new service last night with Ratatouille and it worked flawlessly. Done and done.

(3) iPhone 1.1.3 – yes, I decided to stop jailbreaking my iPhone so I restored it and updated to 1.1.3. It’s great. Enough of this topic though…

(4) The thinnest laptop in the world! – MacBook Air – I won’t write much about this because I already did in an earlier post…. but I will leave you with Apple’s new commercial.

Apple

For those of us Apple fans out there, TechCrunch recently wrote an exciting article about Apple signing a major deal with Fox that will include video rentals from iTunes.  This has been speculated for months in all the blogs, but it looks like Apple will be announcing this at their Macworld 2008 meeting in January.

So, for all of us Apple lovers… just picture this.  You get home from work, tired and exhausted.  You want to watch a movie but don’t feel like getting out in that crappy Dallas traffic.  You plug in your iPhone to your laptop, open iTunes and there you have it.  A video you can rent for 30 days (per the article’s source on TechCrunch).

Now that’s what I call real technology.  Yes, before you comment, I already know that Netflix and Amazon and a few others already do online video renting.  But still, we’ve been waiting for the day when Apple would include it.  So no raining on our parade.

Keep watching for more updates…
