Apple Responds to iTunes Sync Crash Issue

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I wrote earlier what I believed to be a personal fix to the iTunes sync-crashing issue that has plagued thousands of iPod and iPhone users in the last four days. Today, Apple sent me an email detailing the issue and their suggestion on how to fix it, and it looks very similar to what I posted two days ago:

Dear Customer,

Recently, we uncovered an issue which was causing iTunes to unexpectedly quit when synced with an iPod or an iPhone. This issue impacted a small number of users, and we have identified your account as potentially being affected.

If you have experienced this issue, please follow these steps in order to sync your iPod or iPhone with iTunes:

1. Launch iTunes
2. Select “Deauthorize Computer” from the Store menu
3. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Deauthorize button
4. Next, choose “Authorize Computer” from the Store menu
5. Enter your iTunes Store Account ID and Password, then click the Authorize button

Once you have successfully deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, you should be able to sync your iPod or iPhone to iTunes.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced as a result of this issue.

Thank you for being an iTunes Store customer.

The Best Podcasts of 2007 – My Top Five

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

So I recently bought my iPhone in October of this year and it has opened my eyes to the podcasting world.  For any of you who have an iPhone, iPod Touch or other earlier-generation iPod, all you have to do is subscribe via iTunes and you can see some really cool stuff.

I won’t pretend that I’m a huge “expert” in this area, but for any of you who aren’t considered tech “geeks” but have an interest in utilizing your iPhone/iPod to it’s fullest potential, then keep reading.  If you have any other podcast suggestions, please leave a comment below!

Jeff’s Top Five:

(1) CommandN – this was my first podcast series that I started watching on my iPhone and I have learned so much.  Amber “Mac” and Will Pate co-host this weekly series and they discuss anything/everything related to headlines of the week, webpicks of the week and other interesting topics on the web.  Amber’s brother, Jeff, always has a discussion on the latest gadget or software tips/tricks.  They really do a great job with not only discussing the latest and greatest in the tech world but also making it understandable.  That to me is the key.  You can even view some of their episodes at YouTube so click here if you’d like to see their YouTube page.

(2) GeekBrief.TV - Cali Lewis… what more should I say?!  She’s a fellow Dallasite and I came across her podcast in iTunes about a month ago and I can’t get enough of her.  The show is well produced and she’s very quick.  What I mean by that is you will find some podcasts that are 30 minutes to an hour long and I have to admit that within 5 minutes of these type of shows, you can lose interest quickly.  Cali not only maintains my interest throughout the entire show, she also gives a lot of news/headlines/tips/tricks in a short amount of time.  It’s perfect driving down the Dallas North Tollway listening to her 3-day/week show.  Check out GBTV’s latest episode here.

(3) National Geographic’s “Wild Chronicles” – talk about an awesome podcast show.  I download these every week on iTunes and always play them on my TV (via my iPhone’s AV connector).  It’s literally like compiling the best shows that have been produced by the nature expert and putting them in an easy-to-download awesome show!  Each week has different topics from watching how an octopus lives in it’s natural habitat to watching scientists chase tornadoes in Oklahoma!  It’s fantastic to watch on my iPhone and I am an avid fan of National Geographic. To subscribe, go to your iTunes and search in their “store” for National Geographic.

(4) Rocketboom – It took me a few episodes to catch on to this very original podcast, but I am now a huge fan.  I think anyone who has the interest in podcasts should subscribe via iTunes to Rocketboom.  Rocketboom is hosted by Joanne Colan in NYC and it’s a three minute video podcast that covers a wide range of news topics and quirky culture.  She’s hysterical and it’s very well written.  Think of The Daily Show on crack. Check out their epidodes on the Rocketboom link right above.

(5) Grammar Girl - Oprah turned the world on to Grammar Girl and I must say I’m a huge fan as well.  I listen to her every week while I am driving to work or back home from work.  She teaches the best grammar rules that everyone should know but doesn’t.  I learn things from her podcast every time I listen to her show.  She’s fantastic.  Click on the Glammar Girl link above to be directed directly to her website.

These are my top 5 podcasts of 2007.  Don’t get me wrong, there are MANY more out there that are just as awesome, but these 5 shows have changed my life in how I view media and downloadable content.  They all should be applauded and thanked many times over!

Let me know if there’s a podcast/video podcast that you enjoy and leave me a comment!
