Google Makes Free WiFi At Airports

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

In an announcement from Google this week (the one last week can be found here), they announced that they are working with airports across the country as well as Boingo wireless, which is a wireless hotspot provider, to provide free wifi access to all major airports for the holiday season.

Wow, that’s huge. Most airport wifi hotspots can cost anywhere from $7/hour or even $20/day and Google and Boingo are “giving back” during the holiday season, which coicidentally coincides with the busiest time of air traffic (Thanksgiving through Christmas holidays).

So, if you’re interested in which airports will be participating in the free Google wifi hotspots during your travel, make sure to check out Moxie Mo Show episode 110. We will be providing you with all the information possible and you can find out more there. Go Google! Happy Holidays!

Apple and Google Publicly Reject Prop 8 (Ban on Gay Marriage)

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

I’ve always had a huge love for all things Apple and all great things Google and now I must admit, I love them even more. Finally we have two large companies who are doing GOOD for their employees and doing GOOD for equality all over the state of California (and quite frankly, this says a huge message for all of America).

If you’re not familar with Proposition 8, here’s a quick recap:

Conservatives in California have put a measure on the ballot to ban gay marriage and therefore make it illegal. It has been a very heated debate in California and all over the country as most people (pro and against gay marriage) have been watching this one closely.

According to AppleInsider.com, Apple recently donated $100,000 to vote NO on Prop 8 therefore throwing their support to their gay employees whose freedoms would be taken away if this measure gets passed.

Google also has publicly thrown support to voting NO on Prop 8 and has made a statement that says “it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8. While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 — we should not eliminate anyone’s fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.”

Thank you Google and Apple for supporting your employees and your customers for a simple right that allows each and every one of us to celebrate a commitment made between to people who are in love.

End of issue.

Google Friend Connect

Google Friend Connect

Google recently announced a new service that will motivate any website owner into getting more involved in the social media realm. Google Friend Connect was made to socialize the internet for every-day users. Users will be able to add profile information, videos, photos and other great “widgets” on any website that uses their service. Even better, the website owner doesn’t even need to know programming since Google will have a wizard type set up to install this new service on to any website.

Why is this a big deal? In my opinion, this opens the playing field for the average blog site and even though we will never be competing directly with the MySpaces and Facebooks of the world, it at least gives us the chance to provide social networking and the fun that goes with it to our viewers.

According to e-Week, “

Once Google Friend Connect is launched to the masses, there will be more and more widgets available that will allow you, the viewer, to bring your friends with you on any website you want. Social networking will definitely be altered once this service launches, in my opinion.

What are your thoughts? If you own a blog/website, do you have interest in using this service? If so, why? Please leave a comment below!
