My Dad’s Birthday: Never Take Life For Granted

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

As many of you know, my Dad passed away on Easter of this year and it truly devastated me. I’d already lost my brother (he was 33) as in 2005 to colon cancer which never allowed my family to be the same again, but then for my Dad to leave us, quite unexpectedly, is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I was in a state of depression for months, which I guess is natural, but I am feeling better. Saturday, though, was his birthday and naturally it got me sad and made me miss him even more. But instead of moping around, crying and being upset, I decided to take all that energy and express it as only I know how: in a video.

I took my dog for a walk to “the park” (aka a place near our condos) and it was a happy day for him. So what does that have to do with my Dad? Deco was there for me every single step of the way going through and getting out of my depression after Dad died (as well as my Mom, my boyfriend, my friends and my coworkers). But those who have dogs know, there’s something that only they can feel and something only they can do – and I truly feel like Deco heals my heart when it’s broken.

My Dad loved Deco. Loved him. So here’s to you, Dad. Happy Birthday. May we love those we love, forgive those who need to and never take a day for granted again:

Dogs Can Heal

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Some of you may know, but most probably do not – my Dad passed away just a month ago (on Easter night) and it was heart breaking. I lost my Dad. Even worse, we lost my only sibling (Steve) from colon cancer in 2005 when he was only 32.

So I feel I can say it’s fair that I’ve suffered quite a lot in a short amount of time – but then again, who hasn’t? My point to this blog entry isn’t for your pity…. truly. It’s to prove how much a dog (or any pet/animal for that matter) can truly heal you.

My dog and cat (my boys as we call them) are my life. Deco, my dog, is one of the sweetest animals on this earth and he has healed me in more ways than one – I never knew I could love as much as I have since I’ve adopted him from Animal Rescue of Texas.

So I took him outside yesterday for 30 minutes (had to work a lot this weekend) and it made all the difference in the world. I hope this video helps you see just how wonderful dogs can be:

Daddy’s Home!

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Whenever James comes home from work, he has to buzz in (which calls my cell phone) to get into the gate at our apartment. My dog, Deco, has literally become one smart lil’ puppy as he’s begun to associate the phone ring and my saying “Daddy’s home” with quite the cute, funny lil’ act.

I’ll leave it at that as I think the video says it all. Just keep in mind when you watch this… how would this not make your worst day so much better? I love dogs!
