Things We Do For Love
Monday, July 7th, 2008
I’ve written a few posts on here about relationships, love and commitment… and I’m about to write one more. James and I have been watching this season’s Bacherlorette on ABC and I must admit, shamefully, that I was on the edge of my seat every episode. I usually don’t watch The Bachelor nor do I watch many of The Bacherlorettes, but there was something different about this lady. She had me at the first “will you accept this rose?”
Tonight was the finale of the show and I’ve never been more upset in my life. She chose the wrong guy, in my expert TV opinion. The guy who I was totally gunning for (Jason) just got his heart broke, literally, on national TV. I know, some of you on here are probably thinking “this is a reality show… there’s no such thing as falling in love on a TV show.” Well, if you watched this season, I think you’d have to agree that people can and do crazy things for love. So that got me thinking, primarily because I felt so sad and heartbroken for Jason, why do we do the things we do for love?
Whether it’s staying in a relationship that isn’t progressing because you’re too in love with the other person or it’s risking your image, your heart and your self-worth on a national TV show, we humans do strange AND HARD things for love. I’ve yet to see (in real life or on TV) people do the things they do for any other thing on this Earth (except I will admit people do some CRAZY things for money). Sure, we all know someone who will eat a raw oyster or a spoiled egg for a hundred bucks… but can you honestly say these people would risk rejection or heart break for money? I don’t think many would. Yet, people do it every day for love!
Love is something that isn’t tangible, in my opinion. I’m learning so much about love in these last two years, due to the relationship I’m in, than I ever thought possible. And those who know me, know that these lessons haven’t been the most enjoyable. However, they are lessons that I’ve found to be truly valuable.
So, my awesome readers, what are your thoughts? Do you think people do crazy things for love? If so, what? Give me a personal example!
