iPhone 4G Coming Soon?

iPhone4G iPhone 4G Coming Soon?

As we’ve been discussing all the moxie gadget news from CES 2010 over at the Moxie Mo Show, Apple has still continuously been in the news (even when they weren’t a part of CES 2010!). First and foremost, the Apple tablet still has a lot of steam yet Apple has yet to say a word. The event is supposedly taking place on Wednesday, January 27th and space has been rented but we still have no idea exactly what Apple has up its sleeve.

In Moxie Mo Show episode 121, I spoke to Cali Lewis (during her livestream here) and I also spoke in my podcast that reports and “sources” have been buzzing about Apple’s tablet. That said, new reports are coming out now about Apple’s next-gen iPhone!

First, Apple has reportedly bought hundreds of thousands of LED flashes to install in their next-gen iPhones so we can actually take photos in low-light or dark-light areas. This would be a step in the right direction considering every other smart phone competitor has this option, practically.

Today, though, reports came from PC World that Apple’s next-gen iPhone will have 4G (a major speed improvement than AT&T’s horrible 3G coverage) and a 5 megapixel camera that would equal Google’s Nexus One. These, to me, are obvious and immeninent updates to the iPhone – after all, if the iPhone doesn’t upgrade in a MAJOR way, it has no chance of keeping the market share now that we have the Droid, the Pre, the Nexus One and countless others.

But when can we expect the next-gen 4G iPhone? Rumors are circulating that it may not be the typical June/July timeframe, when Apple has released their iPhones in the past. According to a French site, Challenge.fr, the next-gen iPhone will be released THIS spring (May timeframe) which could be very interesting. Again, rumors and speculation but I think any geek or expert would agree: if Apple intends to hold on to the majority of smart phone market share, something big and better must be coming. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

iPhone 3.0 is finally here and we have all the details from today’s Apple iPhone 3.0 event.

(1) Copy and Paste – the iPhone will now have copy and paste in almost all the applications. Simply double tap and it highlights the word of block of words.

(2) New Games, API and other programming stuff – which basically means we’ll have much better 3rd party apps for the iPhone. Turn by turn GPS, phenomenal games and other apps.

(3) MMS Support and Messages - the SMS app is now called Messages. You can now forward and delete individual messages and multiple messages. Plus: MMS! The iPhone finally has MMS (sending pics via text message).

(4) Voice Memos – send voice memos via SMS to anyone you want!

(5) Landscape Mode – turn the iPhone over and landscape mode will appear in all the apps – notes, email, SMS, stocks, weather, etc. Makes it much easier to view and write messages and in certain apps, landscape mode gives you more information (i.e. Stocks – turn it to landscape mode and you’ll see delta points from day before stocks, etc).

Sources Claim Apple’s Netbook IS Real

Apple's Netbook?

Two sources close to the Dow Jones were told that Apple is indeed planning to launch a touch screen netbook sometime in the 2nd half of this year. Wow.

The mini laptops will have touch screens the size of 9.7 inches and 10 inches which thus means there should be two models that come up.

Here’s what we do know: Apple has a WWDC event coming up in June where they announce all their new and upcoming products, so here’s to thinking this may happen in June. We shall see. As always, I’ll keep you covered.

iTunes Crashes When Syncing iPhone 2.2.1

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

The last three days I’ve noticed something very peculiar with iTunes. Ever since I upgraded my iPhone to 2.2.1, things have been fine for the first 2 days. Then I deleted a song and all of a sudden now every time I sync my iPhone, iTunes crashes. This has happened THIRTY times now.

So I googled and you’ll never believe what I’ve found – there are THOUSANDS of people who are having this exact same problem in the last several days. Some have deleted songs and then it crashed and some have not. So I thought it best to post what I did to fix my problem, so far. I have no idea if this solution will keep working, but at least I can sync my iPhone with all of my DRM and non-DRM content and it’s working.

CNET and MacNN have begun covering this debacle – I just hope other big blogs cover this so Apple will hurry and fix it.

Here’s the Apple forums for you to peruse if you’re having this problem. Click here.

Here’s what I did to get it working again:

(1) Deauthorized my computer in iTunes (Store -> Deauthorize Computer)

(2) Authorize my computer in iTunes (Store -> Authorize Computer) – NOTE: if you have AppleTV, this will reset it and AppleTV will have to sync all your content again, but this is normal and just fine. You won’t lose anything.

(3) Go into iTunes Store, purchase a free app.

(4) Sync.

For some reason, this is working for me. According to the Apple forums, it works for most of us and for others it doesn’t.

Apple, please hurry.

Macworld 2009 – A Mild Storm

MacWorld 2009

Typically, Macworld’s keynote is a day of super angst and tons of bloggers creating huge rumors that swirl inside their heads. This Macworld, the last one where Apple will be an official partner, was a bit of a let down, if you ask me. Sure, the updates to iLife are great.  Lord knows we need a better iMovie and the personal music lessons from today’s biggest stars for Garage Band are pretty cool, too. But I guess I was hoping for something huge to happen and it never did. But then again, maybe that has more to do with Steve Jobs’ not delivering the keynote more than anything else.

So for those three of you who haven’t heard the latest Apple announcements, I’ll do a quick summary for you:

(1) iTunes, by April, will be 100% DRM free. Basically this means (for you non-geeks) that when you purchase an iTunes song, you will be able to copy it and play it almost anywhere. That’s a good thing, me thinks. Another potentially huge announcement is iTunes will also now have 3-tiered music prices: some songs will be $0.69, some songs will stay $0.99 and other songs (the huge hits) will raise to $1.29!

(2) iLife ‘09, iWork ‘09 – to me, this is the coolest news of the entire keynote. iLife (which is the heart of Mac) updated Garageband, iMovie and iPhoto. iPhoto ‘09 will have an awesome facial recognition technology that will be able to scan your photos and then tag the photo with the person in it. For example, I upload a photo from my iPhone into my Mac with my Mom and Dad. I tell my Mac who my Dad is in the picture, and then iPhoto will scan every single photo on my Mac and will then tag him in every picture I have. Facial recognition technology is amazingly awesome. You can read exact updates of iMovie and Garageband here. I’m happy for iWork ‘09 but I really don’t use it that much, but if you want to read more about iWork ‘09, click here.

(3) 17″ Macbook Pro – the only hardware announcement made in yesterday’s keynote is for the Macbook Pro. A new 17 inch, very powerful and very sleek Macbook Pro has officially been released. A nice and hefty pricetag as well – $2,800. Wow, things I wish I could have…

And that was it. It was, by all accounts, a very short and sweet keynote. It’s not bad, but it by no means rivaled the keynotes of past when the iPhone was announced to the world or when Apple TV was announced.

Don’t get me wrong, though, I’m very excited for the software updates. I want them here now. If you’re a current Mac owner, the upgrade is only $79.

Unboxing iPhone 3G

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

So, I’m 6 months late, but I finally got my new 3G iPhone (Christmas present) and I’m now official. Right off the bat, it is definitely faster which is an added bonus (and worth the $199 in my opinion) and the GPS is phenomenal. I love the blue little dot that literally follows you everywhere you go. If you speed up on a highway, the blue dot (on google maps) literally speeds up as well. Slow down? The blue dot slows down. It’s amazing.

Nonetheless, here you go. I can’t believe today is the last day of 2008. Thank God!
