iTunes Crashes When Syncing iPhone 2.2.1
Monday, February 2nd, 2009The last three days I’ve noticed something very peculiar with iTunes. Ever since I upgraded my iPhone to 2.2.1, things have been fine for the first 2 days. Then I deleted a song and all of a sudden now every time I sync my iPhone, iTunes crashes. This has happened THIRTY times now.
So I googled and you’ll never believe what I’ve found – there are THOUSANDS of people who are having this exact same problem in the last several days. Some have deleted songs and then it crashed and some have not. So I thought it best to post what I did to fix my problem, so far. I have no idea if this solution will keep working, but at least I can sync my iPhone with all of my DRM and non-DRM content and it’s working.
CNET and MacNN have begun covering this debacle – I just hope other big blogs cover this so Apple will hurry and fix it.
Here’s the Apple forums for you to peruse if you’re having this problem. Click here.
Here’s what I did to get it working again:
(1) Deauthorized my computer in iTunes (Store -> Deauthorize Computer)
(2) Authorize my computer in iTunes (Store -> Authorize Computer) – NOTE: if you have AppleTV, this will reset it and AppleTV will have to sync all your content again, but this is normal and just fine. You won’t lose anything.
(3) Go into iTunes Store, purchase a free app.
(4) Sync.
For some reason, this is working for me. According to the Apple forums, it works for most of us and for others it doesn’t.
Apple, please hurry.
