I too knew your father during his time playing on the Pepsi baseball team. I was the original batboy for the first couple of years. I would ride with Chester and Ruth to a lot of the away games and to the national tournaments in Wichita. Chester and I would play a spelling game with the letters from billboards along the highways. He taught me some a lot about business during those trips. It was such a great experience seeing all of the games with some of the great teams that Chester organized. I remenber Ron as always having a smile. Ruth was such a wonderful woman. Chester was the general manager for the team. The McCord family worked so well as a family and they always had fun together. My condolense.

Jeff,
Sorry to hear about your Dad. My prayers are with you and your family. That was a beautiful tribute to your Dad and I know he continues to see how many people are enjoying all the hard work and internal feelings you put into it. I never forgot the great times I enjoyed their in Lawton playing for the pepsi's and going to Fort Sill to work. Thanks to your dad and of course many other folks who took time to see that we were welcome and made all of us feel at home. I remember the names and when I saw the video, I was trying to place the faces with the names. I was in cloud nine at the time, my only brother, Armando, killed in Viet Nam. I never forgot standing at second base, with tears in my eyes, while they played the national anthem and stared at the flag remembering my brother and those who gave their lives for our freedom. I remember lawton when I attend the Texas Rangers game. Thanks to your dad I was given a baseball scholarship to OSU. I have been nominated for El Paso, Texas Baseball Hall of Fame. How can I get some stats while I was playing in lawton, 1970 & 1971. Thank you again and continue with your ventures. God Bless.
I was thinking of your father and his parents, Ruth and Chester, so I googled Ron McCord and found your wonderful tribute.
I had not kept in touch with your dad and didn't know he had passed away.
Ron was a very nice person who everyone liked. He had a great personality and was such a people person.
I met Ruth,Chester and your dad in 1966 when I played for the Lawton Pepsi's baseball team. I loved your grandparents and they were very nice to me. Chester was the force behind the Pepsi's and he put a lot into it.
I am sure your dad had a full and fun life although losing a son was terrible for all of you. I am very sorry for your loss but want you to know how much I thought of your father and grandparents.

Jeff,

I ran across your tribute this Sunday morning...it is fabulous. It saddened me to know that an old friend had passed, but your dad didn't have the word sad in his vocabulary. Ronald Chester "Steve McQueen" McCord was an original.

I knew Ron and his family in the 60s in Lawton as a result of baseball. I played for Cameron in 65-66 and played for a semi-pro team called the Lawton Pepsis. I'm pretty sure your Grandpa had a lot to do with that team's sponsorship. Ruth and Chester were another couple of originals.

Ruth and Chester hooked me up with Chet Bryan (OSU coach) who gave me a baseball scholarship. I attended OSU in 66-67, roomed with your dad, but never got a chance to play baseball.

I stayed at the McCord house in Lawton the summer before OSU. I will never forget Ruth, Chester, Ron and Linda...a wonderful, caring family. I remember the day your Grandpa parked a brand new red, Chevelle in front of the house...it was a birthday (?) present for Ron. I was stunned!

I was looking at a current map of Cameron University and saw a reference to McCord Field. I knew Ron or Chester had something to do with it, so I started Googling and saw your tribute.

I would like to offer my belated condolences to you and your family. Those are some big shoes to fill, but you sound like you're well on your way...

Best wishes as I head to church here in rural Arizona.
