It saddened me to know that an old friend had passed, but your dad didn't have the word sad in his vocabulary. Ronald Chester "Steve McQueen" McCord was an original. I knew Ron and his family in the 60s in Lawton as a result of baseball. I played for Cameron in 65-66 and played for a semi-pro team called the Lawton Pepsis. I'm pretty sure your Grandpa had a lot to do with that team's sponsorship. Ruth and Chester were another couple of originals. Ruth and Chester hooked me up with Chet Bryan (OSU coach) who gave me a baseball scholarship. I attended OSU in 66-67, roomed with your dad, but never got a chance to play baseball. I stayed at the McCord house in Lawton the summer before OSU. I will never forget Ruth, Chester, Ron and Linda...a wonderful, caring family. I remember the day your Grandpa parked a brand new red, Chevelle in front of the house...it was a birthday (?) present for Ron. I was stunned! I was looking at a current map of Cameron University and saw a reference to McCord Field. I knew Ron or Chester had something to do with it, so I started Googling and saw your tribute. I would like to offer my belated condolences to you and your family. Those are some big shoes to fill, but you sound like you're well on your way...
