Prop 8: The Musical

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

In my 31 years of life, I’ve come to realize a few things. Life can be hard and at times, make no sense. I felt like that when Prop 8 was passed in California last month. However, that being said, one thing I do know for sure… there’s nothing like a bit of comedy to teach people the truth about a hard topic. Bravo to Hollywood on this one.

PS - before you dismiss Jack Black as potentially being blashpemous, he’s not being whatsoever. He’s sarcastically showing you how some on the right “pick and choose” what the Bible teaches. Just think about it. Enjoy!

Tina Fey Rocks: She Slams Palin’s Gay Views

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I’m sure millions of us watched, yet again, Tina Fey do a fantastic job mocking Sarah Palin last night on SNL. This is her (Tina’s) 3rd week in a row where she does a Palin appearance and I must admit, it gets better and better every single week.

The part I wanted to show you is the wonderful slam against Palin and her views on “the gays.” Wow, I love the zinger about “marriage should only be between two unwilling teenagers” (clearly mocking Palin’s own daughter who got pregnant at the age of 16 and is now being ‘forced’ to get married). Enjoy!

The video has been fixed (audio), so please enjoy and digg this if you liked it! :)

Getting Palin

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Although personally, I do not get Sarah Palin’s beliefs and political views, I must admit Tina Fey packed a phenomenal punch when she impersonated Sarah Palin on this past Saturday Night Live. Wow, there’s finally a perfect duo (Fey and Poehler) to watch this upcoming season! Too bad Tina Fey left SNL for good!

It’s Out: I Am Addicted

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I have a confession. I have an addiction. It’s called Big Brother 10. I love that my coworkers (shout out to Misti and Amberly) talk about it with a passion like I do. What is it about a stupid reality show that can get you so excited and so enthralled?

If you don’t watch it, you won’t care about this posting. But this is my blog, no? :)

Things We Do For Love

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Things We Do For LoveI’ve written a few posts on here about relationships, love and commitment… and I’m about to write one more. James and I have been watching this season’s Bacherlorette on ABC and I must admit, shamefully, that I was on the edge of my seat every episode. I usually don’t watch The Bachelor nor do I watch many of The Bacherlorettes, but there was something different about this lady. She had me at the first “will you accept this rose?”

Tonight was the finale of the show and I’ve never been more upset in my life. She chose the wrong guy, in my expert TV opinion. The guy who I was totally gunning for (Jason) just got his heart broke, literally, on national TV. I know, some of you on here are probably thinking “this is a reality show… there’s no such thing as falling in love on a TV show.” Well, if you watched this season, I think you’d have to agree that people can and do crazy things for love. So that got me thinking, primarily because I felt so sad and heartbroken for Jason, why do we do the things we do for love?

Whether it’s staying in a relationship that isn’t progressing because you’re too in love with the other person or it’s risking your image, your heart and your self-worth on a national TV show, we humans do strange AND HARD things for love. I’ve yet to see (in real life or on TV) people do the things they do for any other thing on this Earth (except I will admit people do some CRAZY things for money). Sure, we all know someone who will eat a raw oyster or a spoiled egg for a hundred bucks… but can you honestly say these people would risk rejection or heart break for money? I don’t think many would. Yet, people do it every day for love!

Love is something that isn’t tangible, in my opinion. I’m learning so much about love in these last two years, due to the relationship I’m in, than I ever thought possible. And those who know me, know that these lessons haven’t been the most enjoyable. However, they are lessons that I’ve found to be truly valuable.

So, my awesome readers, what are your thoughts? Do you think people do crazy things for love? If so, what? Give me a personal example! :)

Laughing At Fear

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

My Dad, who I adore yet absolutely disagree politically, finally has something in common with me: we love great comedy, specifically The Daily Show. I’ve been telling him over and over again to watch it and he used to say “Absolutely not! I’m not going to watch some liberal idiot.” Oh, how he was wrong. He LOVES Jon Stewart now! And here’s why? Because although the show is freaking hysterical, there’s an absolute truth to his comedy. Jon Stewart tells it as it is regardless if you’re on the right or the left! The truth, in fact, is funny!

Regardless of your political views, you can’t deny (if you’re a sane person) that Fox News, CNN, or “insert city here” news all have a level of selling fear to their audience. Why else would some one tune in? Fear sells. Obama is a Muslim terrorist! Gas prices will be $7.00 by 2010! Iraq never had weapons of mass destruction! Oh wait, that’s actually truth, not fear. Sorry! You get my point…

So why do I bring up The Daily Show with Jon Stewart? Because he has a phenomenally, successful show. Studies have shown that my demographic (educated twenty to thirty somethings) watch The Daily Show to get the REAL news versus the insane “un-biased” Fox News or CNN. That should really wake up America, in my opinion. A “comedic” news show on Comedy Central is getting more viewers than the “real news.” But does it really surprise you?

I can best some up my point in the post by showing you exactly what I’m talking about with a clip from The Daily Show (it’s always my way of ‘bragging’ that I have a RedLasso account!)

So what are your thoughts, my friends? Aren’t you tired of fear being presented to you every single night? Instead of believing and fearing fear itself, why not laugh at it? I do.
