Unboxing iPhone 3G

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

So, I’m 6 months late, but I finally got my new 3G iPhone (Christmas present) and I’m now official. Right off the bat, it is definitely faster which is an added bonus (and worth the $199 in my opinion) and the GPS is phenomenal. I love the blue little dot that literally follows you everywhere you go. If you speed up on a highway, the blue dot (on google maps) literally speeds up as well. Slow down? The blue dot slows down. It’s amazing.

Nonetheless, here you go. I can’t believe today is the last day of 2008. Thank God!

What Is Mr. Tweet?

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

If you’re a Twitter user, then you need to know about Mr. Tweet. There is a new personal assistant service (free) for all Twitter users and this service (Mr. Tweet) will literally tell you who you should be following (and who you shouldn’t) as well as making your twitter experience much more “worthy.”

I just did a Moxie Mo Show episode on Mr. Tweet. Check it out at Moxie Mo Show #41: Mr. Tweet.

Is MobileMe Fixed?

Monday, December 15th, 2008

overview_hero200807021-300x107 Is MobileMe Fixed?

It’s been several months now that Apple’s cloud-syncing MobileMe has been created yet the issues seemed to get worse and worse as the days rolled by. For those of you who use MobileMe (like me), you know that your contacts would sync from your iPhone to your Mac, but your Mac wouldn’t sync properly (specifically the contacts in your Address Book) to your iPhone or other computer or vice versa. Well now, thanks to Apple’s latest update of 10.5.6, MobileMe’s performance should be much better.

According to Computer World, “as part of the Mac OS X 10.5.6 upgrade released today, Apple included fixes to MobileMe, the company’s online synchronization, storage and Web application service. ‘Contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Mac automatically sync within a minute of the change being made on the computer, another device, or the web at me.com,’ Apple said in the update description it posted online Monday morning.”

I’ve yet to update to 10.5.6 since I’m at work but I’m looking forward to MobileMe being fixed. As many have said in the past, this could be Apple’s strength if it would get MobileMe once and for all fixed.

For those Mac users who’ve already updated, do you notice everything syncing properly with MobileMe? Leave a comment or msg me on twitter if you know!

AT&T Nows Offers iPhone 3g Online (At Home Activation)

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I tweeted this morning that I thought it was odd that AT&T is now offering the iPhone 3G online, meaning home activation (as they did with the iPhone 1.0 a year ago). I then even sent a tip to TUAW.com, one of my favorite blogs, but they never responded. So I thought maybe I was the idiot - maybe it was ME who just didn’t know this breaking news…

Well, it’s now Thursday evening and all the major blogs are “breaking” the news about it. Looks like I can pat myself on the back - I broke the news (as you can see in my tweet). So the morale to the story, you don’t need a big boy blog to catch up on all the latest and greatest… you just need the Moxie Mo (and Jeff McCord’s Blog!)

Proof I tweeted about story earlier this morning!

YouTube Goes HD!

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Well it’s been an interesting week for technology news and Google’s YouTube definitely topped the cake. YouTube, the world’s largest video sharing site, has officially gone HD.

According to Techcrunch, “After teasing us for a year with the option to watch “higher quality” videos that weren’t quite high-def, it appears that YouTube is making the switch to HD, at least for some videos that have been uploaded in that quality. Earlier this month, there were reports of YouTube testing this feature, but this morning it seems to be more widespread. (This comes after YouTube adopted a widescreen format for all of its videos last week).”

Bravo to YouTube for doing this. Some bloggers (just recently today) have even gone so far to say the quality of the 720p videos on YouTube look better than Vimeo’s HD service. Wow.

This just goes to show that Santa needs to bring me my new Flip Mino HD now!

Nokia N97: The Real iPhone Killer?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

nokian97-300x199 Nokia N97: The Real iPhone Killer?

Today, history has been made, in the minds of Nokia. At a conference in Spain, Nokia has announced their new smart phone, the Nokia N97. So why is this smart phone getting all the bloggers in a jolt? According to Nokia, this is the real smart phone.

According to Nokia’s blog, the Nokia N97 is ”the world’s most advanced mobile computer, which will transform the way people connect to the Internet and to each other. Designed for the needs of Internet-savvy consumers, the Nokia N97 combines a large 3.5″ touch display with a full QWERTY keyboard, providing an ‘always open’ window to favorite social networking sites and Internet destinations. Nokia’s flagship Nseries device introduces leading technology - including multiple sensors, memory, processing power and connection speeds - for people to create a personal Internet and share their ’social location.’”

So what are some of the pros that Nokia has over Apple’s iPhone? For one, real video can be played, including flash. It also comes with a 5 megapixel camera (killing the iPhone’s 1 meg camera). The OS has been quoted to be the most powerful OS on any smart phone yet. The Nokia N97 also has DVD-quality video capture, and tons of storage.

The cons? According to Gizmodo, the downsides are ”the N97 is aimed at Europe and Asia first. So big ballers in Moscow and Macau can expect to be toting an N97 sometime in the ‘first half of 2009,’ with a U.S. release (with the appropriate 3G bands) to follow ’soon after.’ In Europe it’ll run a hefty €550 ($695) unsubsidized.”

Time will tell if the Nokia N97 is what literally bridges the gap between the laptop and the phone, but I still think Apple has more power up it’s sleeve.
