Apple and Google Publicly Reject Prop 8 (Ban on Gay Marriage)
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008I’ve always had a huge love for all things Apple and all great things Google and now I must admit, I love them even more. Finally we have two large companies who are doing GOOD for their employees and doing GOOD for equality all over the state of California (and quite frankly, this says a huge message for all of America).
If you’re not familar with Proposition 8, here’s a quick recap:
Conservatives in California have put a measure on the ballot to ban gay marriage and therefore make it illegal. It has been a very heated debate in California and all over the country as most people (pro and against gay marriage) have been watching this one closely.
According to AppleInsider.com, Apple recently donated $100,000 to vote NO on Prop 8 therefore throwing their support to their gay employees whose freedoms would be taken away if this measure gets passed.
Google also has publicly thrown support to voting NO on Prop 8 and has made a statement that says “it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8. While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 — we should not eliminate anyone’s fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.”
Thank you Google and Apple for supporting your employees and your customers for a simple right that allows each and every one of us to celebrate a commitment made between to people who are in love.
End of issue.
It’s Official: Colin Powell Endorses Obama
Sunday, October 19th, 2008In what’s been called the most major Republican crossing of party lines, Colin Powell has officially endorsed Barack Obama on Meet the Press this morning.
“I must say, he seemed a little unsure about how to approach the problem,” Powell said of McCain.
“He didn’t have a complete grasp of the economic problems we have.”
According to the Washington Post, “Powell also expressed concerns about McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. ‘I don’t believe she’s ready to be President of the United States, which is the job of vice president,’ Powell said, adding that it raised ’some questions in my mind’ about McCain’s judgment.”
Wow. I recall some of my conservative family members, coworkers and even friends mentioning to me that they would vote for Colin Powell if he ever ran for President. This makes me wonder what they feel now that he’s endorsing a Democratic nominee?
As the Washington Post said best, this endorsement gives Obama the credibility and TRUST that a lot of conservatives have been trying to take away from him.
Please make sure you vote on November 4th!
Tina Fey Rocks: She Slams Palin’s Gay Views
Sunday, October 5th, 2008I’m sure millions of us watched, yet again, Tina Fey do a fantastic job mocking Sarah Palin last night on SNL. This is her (Tina’s) 3rd week in a row where she does a Palin appearance and I must admit, it gets better and better every single week.
The part I wanted to show you is the wonderful slam against Palin and her views on “the gays.” Wow, I love the zinger about “marriage should only be between two unwilling teenagers” (clearly mocking Palin’s own daughter who got pregnant at the age of 16 and is now being ‘forced’ to get married). Enjoy!
The video has been fixed (audio), so please enjoy and digg this if you liked it!

Palin’s Idiotic Remark On Biden’s Age
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008Round #2 goes to…. Team Obama.
So a few of my Republican friends, whom I adore, have been talking so much “trash” on me because Palin came into America’s political living room about a month ago. “Jeff, she’s really going to make McCain win. She’s so smart, so tough, beautiful and she really knows her stuff. Come on Jeff, she’s even governor of the largest state in America.”
“Okay friends,” I said, “okay.” I knew in my gut that Palin wasn’t picked because she can lead the country as Vice-President and I also knew in my gut she wasn’t picked because she’s competent. She was picked simply because she was a beautiful, conservative woman (and that’s the truth!) John McCain needed anything he could get to give his campaign that boost. It worked until she began to speak…
Little did my Republican friends (and most of America) know, Palin has do MORE harm to McCain than any good the world ever thought possible. How? Well, you don’t need to look too far - Katie Couric, CBS News anchor woman, interviewed Palin and it literally was devastating. A good friend of mine, another Republican, emailed me two days ago stating “Jeff wins.” I had no idea what he meant, so I replied all and asked him “why do I win?” He said, “You’re right. McCain is an absolute moron. Not only did he let Palin interview w/ Couric and Couric killed her, but even I can’t blame the liberal media… she really is an idiot.” He was referring to her insane remarks on Russia and Alaska and then the infamous “I’ll get back to you Katie” when asked how McCain has reformed our government.
Wow. I couldn’t have said it better myself. Check out blooper #2 from VP-nominee of the all-mighty Republicans, Sarah Plain. To set up this clip, Mrs. Palin is talking about tomorrow’s VP debate and how she’s so excited to debate against Joe Biden. She then makes a funny, sarcastic remark about his age… (then watch when Couric pounces on her about her hypocritical joke and watch Palin try to turn it around as if she wasn’t making fun of Biden… are we Americans really THAT stupid to believe her?):
Pondering Palin
Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008Today marks the big “beginning” of the Republican Convention (was obviously late in starting due to Hurricane Gustav) so I feel I want to post on my two cents about his VP candidate, Sarah Palin. First and foremost, let it be said regarding what’s come to light about Sarah’s 17 yr old pregnant (and unmarried) daughter, that Obama has been the FIRST to respond that this is off limits to his campaign. Now, to me, that’s pure class and tact. I can bet my last breath on earth, that if the tables were turned, the GOP would be salivating with their “family values” tongues and literally licking the blood from Obama’s wounds.
Now, it’s my 2 cents. No one asked, but I don’t care. Do I personally care that Palin has a pregnant unwed daughter of 17 years old? Absolutely not. Is it any of our business as a Veep candidate? Potentially, and here’s why.
Look at her voting record folks. She’s voted continually against safe sex education in schools. She believes that abstinence is the ONLY way to reduce teen pregnancy. She believes safe sex education is immoral and irresponsible. Seriously? Irresponsible?
And thus my rebuttal: God has a way of showing ALL of us that we’re not the Judger nor are we God. And what I mean by this is can you truly tell me it’s coicidental that someone who is so against safe sex education has a 17 yr old child who gets pregnant? Do you not see the life lesson in this? That maybe God is teaching Sarah Palin that her view isn’t the only view on this topic? Maybe I’m going a bit overboard, I’ll even admit, but I just find hypocrisy in politics so amusing. And I will say that I am BIASED in this next statement: I feel the Republican Party is full of hypocritical leaders.
My facts? Look at all who think being gay is sinful and an abominiation, yet they get caught having sex in public restrooms. Look at all who preach that being gay and being a pedophile go hand in hand, yet one of their own leaders in Congress gets caught sending absolutely inappropriate emails to teenage boys. It’s just too funny to me that people refuse to see the hypocrisy.
So that’s my point, my fellow Republicans who are reading this… don’t call Democrats jerks or sexist or anything of the like when they raise their eyebrow with the news that Sarah Palin’s 17 yr old daughter is pregnant. We’re not judging her daughter. We’re judging Palin’s refusal to see that safe sex education is absolutely needed and required and that NO MATTER WHAT, teens are teens and will have sex regardless of what you preach at them. So WHY NOT show them the safe way?
Thoughts?
