Global Warming is False? Hmm.

45635824 bridge esa 466 300x141 Global Warming is False? Hmm.

I consider Cali Lewis a great friend that I’ve met through social networking, so this has nothing to do with her belief that global warming is a hoax. It does have everything to do with friends, family and people I don’t know thinking there’s nothing going on in regards to humans rapidly destroying our precious Earth. I just don’t get it.

Today, scientists announced a major rupture of an ice bridge that linked two large pieces of ice (size of Jamaica) and now the bridge has snapped in two. So a large sheet of ice connecting two other large masses broke, so what? Well here’s why it’s a big deal.

According to the BBC, “Scientists say the collapse could mean the Wilkins Ice Shelf is on the brink of breaking away, and provides further evidence or rapid change in the region.” The Wilkins Ice Shelf has been in the news the last few years because it’s rapidly breaking a part which almost ALL scientists say would effect the weather in a global fashion. Huge amounts of ice melting into the sea cause temperature to change in the water which then causes global weather changes. This is thus called global warming. The less amount of ice to reflect the sun’s rays, the hotter the Earth gets. Get it?

“We know that [the Wilkins Ice Shelf] has been completely or very stable since the 1930s and then it started to retreat in the late 1990s; but we suspect that it’s been stable for a very much longer period than that,” he told BBC News.
“The fact that it’s retreating and now has lost connection with one of its islands is really a strong indication that the warming on the Antarctic is having an effect on yet another ice shelf.”

So for those of us, friends included, who dismiss Global Warming as a hoax… really?

Facebook vs MySpace: Who Won?

fbms109 Facebook vs MySpace: Who Won?

Comscore published their annual statistics on the web and according to Techcrunch, one of the most popular items of interest is MySpace vs Facebook.

I’ve been a user of Facebook since 2006, back when it was barely even known (because everyone and their dog was on MySpace) but I’ve noticed 2008 was the year for Facebook. Literally, almost every friend I have in the real world has a Facebook profile page now and almost daily, I get new requests from friends I haven’t seen in years! To me, it seemed obvious Facebook was kicking MySpace to the curb in regards to visitors, but you’d be wrong if you thought Facebook had more hits!

According to Comscore, MySpace had 76 million unique visitors (in the United States) in 2008 while Facebook had only 54.5 million unique US visitors. Facebook’s growth rate, though, is what has people watching – 3.8% each month in 2008 (MySpace’s growth was only 0.8%). So, in essence, Facebook SHOULD beat MySpace in unique visitors by January 2010 according to experts.

Techcrunch had this to say, “even though Facebook is more than 2/3 the size of MySpace in the U.S. today, some key engagement metrics show more activity per user at MySpace. MySpace has almost two times the total time spent (17.5 billion minutes v. 9.3 billion minutes). MySpace generated 40 billion page views in December to Facebook’s 18 billion.”

Although experts say Facebook could overtake MySpace (in the US) before January 2010, it’s safe to say that Facebook is definitely looking like the new champion.

AT&T Nows Offers iPhone 3g Online (At Home Activation)

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I tweeted this morning that I thought it was odd that AT&T is now offering the iPhone 3G online, meaning home activation (as they did with the iPhone 1.0 a year ago). I then even sent a tip to TUAW.com, one of my favorite blogs, but they never responded. So I thought maybe I was the idiot – maybe it was ME who just didn’t know this breaking news…

Well, it’s now Thursday evening and all the major blogs are “breaking” the news about it. Looks like I can pat myself on the back – I broke the news (as you can see in my tweet). So the morale to the story, you don’t need a big boy blog to catch up on all the latest and greatest… you just need the Moxie Mo (and Jeff McCord’s Blog!)

Why I’m Leaving BlogCatalog

bcjpg Why Im Leaving BlogCatalog

For the four of you who even know what Blog Catalog is, I just wanted to say that I’ve asked for the admin to delete my account. The place is filled with some really intelligent and very nice people but unfortunately there are a few (markstoneman, ender) who love to moderate what bloggers discuss and then cry to the admins when one sticks up for their own discussion thread. Something happened this morning that I won’t even bore you with but lets just say it had markstoneman and a friend of his calling me names on Twitter. It was quite funny, to be honest.

Needless to say, I am deleting my account as I feel like BlogCatalog’s admins don’t do their job and allow these jerks to ruin a really once-prominent community.

Again, those of you who read my blog religiously won’t care, I know… but just thought I’d explain why I am leaving that community. If you recall my beef with YouTube a few months ago, it’s almost similar except the biggest jerk on BlogCatalog is an adult male who acts like a 3rd grader. It’s humorous to a point, but I so don’t need to waste my energy on good blog posts and discussions when this guy is allowed to be a negative jerk to everyone who posts on there. Trust me, I’m one of several who feel this way.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! Tracking Gustav and watching the weather reports has literally exhausted me but I am SO HAPPY that it wasn’t as bad as what it could be! Thank you Lord!
